Order of the Arrow Chief to Meet the President
Orange County Council's Evan Chaffee, the 2007 National Chief of the
BSA Order of the Arrow—the
first Scout from Southern California to be elected to this position—will
be meeting President Bush in the Oval Office late this month
presenting the President with the BSA Report to the Nation.
Evan, an Orange County Eagle Scout and a member of Boy Scout Troop 702 in San Juan Capistrano, and Sea Scout Ship 711 in Newport Beach, will be a member of the National Boy Scouts of America “Report to the Nation” delegation due to arrive in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, February 28. The delegation consists of eight youth representing Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting and the Venturing programs of the Boy Scouts of America.
The connection between Scouting and The Office of the President has a long history. The bylaws of the Boy Scouts of America states, “The President of the United States may, during term in office, be elected to the Honorary President of the Boy Scouts of America.” Since 1910 with William Howard Taft, every President has served as Honorary President of the Boy Scouts of America during his term in office.
Evan's past positions include Chapter Activities VC, Chapter Chief, Lodge Activities Vice Chief, Lodge Conclave Contingent Leader, Lodge Chief, and is a part of the National OA Shows group. Evan served on the OA service corps at the 2005 National Jamboree. Evan has taken part in OA high adventure programs the past few years and was a foreman for the Order of the Arrow Trail Crew program at Philmont last summer. Evan currently attends Saddleback College and is majoring in Business. Congratulations!
Beginning February 29, the status of the delegate activities during the Report to the Nation tour can be linked on the BSA’s National Website, www.scouting.org. Click on the Report to the Nation hot button.
