Serving Up Kicks Throughout Orange County

Friends of Scouting Campaign
The annual Friends of Scouting campaign is an opportunity for communities, businesses and families to support the Scouting movement in Orange County. The drive raises a large percent of our operating budget each year. On average, $150 per youth is needed to provide programs for one year. During the months of January through June, each Pack, Troop, Crew and Post schedule a "Family" Friends of Scouting presentation. This presentation explains to parents how our Council is financed and educates them about our wonderful facilities. The funds raised by Friends of Scouting will be used to fund Soccer and Scouting programs and much more. The Soccer and Scouting District extends its thanks to its many supporters for keeping Scouting alive!

Remember the Orange County Council, BSA Soccer and Scouting program in your will. Leave a gift for the Council's Soccer and Scouting program. Leave stock, land or other assets to the Orange County Council, BSA Soccer and Scouting programs.

What Does Friends of Scouting Provide?

Program Aides Needed!
Make a difference in a child's life...

The Council’s Scoutreach and Soccer and Scouting programs are looking for energetic and enthusiastic individuals to join our team of part-time program aides. Scoutreach is an outreach program that allows “at-risk” kids to participate in Scouting, providing funding for such things as books, camp scholarships, Scout trips, membership dues and staff support which help create a positive experience for over 5,000 youth in Orange County. Successful candidates may already be teachers, community workers, college students or adult leaders. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful, but not required. Soccer and Scouting aides must understand the basic principles of soccer. Program aides conduct weekly Scout meetings, run games and activities and help train parents. Scouting or youth experience is a plus, but not required. All applicants must be 18 or older.

Qualified applicants can e-mail a cover letter and resume to Oscar Santoyo at oscars@ocbsa.org or fax 714-546-0415. Applications are also available at the William Lyon Homes Center for Scouting, 1211 East Dyer Road, Santa Ana, CA 92705.

For more information on these positions or the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America Outreach programs, please contact the Outreach Division at 714-546-4990, ext. 125.

Leader Training

Training is essential in order to provide a quality Scouting program. Our training staff is available to provide important information and materials to help you be prepared. The following steps are necessary to become a trained leader:

Youth Protection Training
New Leader Essentials
Leader Specific Training

To qualify for the National Quality Unit award, every top leader and one assistant (Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Varsity or Venture Leader) will need to be trained, and 50 percent of all registered den leaders in a Cub Scout pack need to be trained in their registered position. Please help us update our records and ensure that all leaders meet these qualifications. If you would like to help train others, contact Jorge Ruiz de Somocurcio at (714) 546-8558 ext. 114 to join the training team.

Roundtable
Roundtables are monthly meetings for any leader involved in Cub Scouts. Each month the roundtable will cover the next month's program theme. This meeting is designed as a tool to help share information, ideas and resources between packs in a District. At this meeting leaders can gather ideas for their unit's programs as well as learn about events the District plans to help with training, fundraising and more. Soccer and Scouting roundtables are held every first Wednesday of the month at 7 pm at the California Youth Soccer League office at 1301 East Edinger in Santa Ana, CA 92705. For more information, please contact Jorge Ruiz de Somocurcio at 714-546-4990 ext. 114 or via e-mail at jorger@ocbsa.org.
