Friends of Scouting
Rancho Del Mar District is doing a fantastic job in this year’s campaign to support Scouting and is rapidly approaching 50%. As many of you already know, the United Way has cut all funding to the Boy Scouts, and in spite of that, we fully expect to achieve our goal of $102,000 before the victory celebration on June 5. So if you would like to up your level of support for Scouting, that would be greatly appreciated. This year Dr. Carl Fabrizio is our District FOS Family chairman, his e-mail is: cfabrizio@cya.ca.gov.

Many of you know Carl from his presentations in the past years, thank you Carl for heading up our campaign! He will be contacting units to finish our family presentation scheduling and we will be calling on previous donors in April and May who have not returned their pledge cards this year. Thank you to all of our families who have supported Friends of Scouting this year.

Camporee
Camporee will be held at Firestone Scout Reservation on March 30, 31 and April 1. This year’s theme is “A Scout is Loyal” and Dr. Steve Skahen is our chairman again this year for the event and we give many thanks to the members of his team. Camporee is sure to be a great event again this year. Make sure that your unit is getting signed up now. You can sign up at our District website: www.ranchodelmar.ocbsa.org. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Scout-O-Rama Ticket Sales
Scout-O-Rama ticket sales will be coming up soon. Julie Anderson will be our chairman and she will be contacting your units to get signed up for the ticket sales. Julie’s e-mail is: liljuls@socal.rr.com. There is still plenty of time for your unit to participate. Units who sell tickets and participate with a booth, service hours or as part of the stage show will receive $3 per $10 ticket sold. All units must sign up for their activity no later than April 27; otherwise the unit commission is $2.50 per /ticket. The coupon books have more than $260 worth of savings, and includes both Ralph’s, Food-4-Less and much, much more.

The Scout-O-Rama ticket sales kick-off will be March 17 at the William Lyon Homes Center for Scouting. Pick up times are 9 am to 12 pm. After that, additional ticket books can be picked up from Jessica McNutt at the William Lyon Homes Center for Scouting or contact Steve or Jillian at 714-546-4990. Scout-O-Rama will once again be held at Hidden Valley Park (formarly Lion Country Safari) next to Wild Rivers in Irvine. The date of the event is May 19. Here’s to looking at a great Scout-O-Rama!

Spring Recruitment
Each Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop should be coordinating their spring plan with Steve or Jillian as soon as possible. In addition to flyer distribution at the schools, we have banners for each unit. Also, the Council has access to both phone numbers and addresses for youth in your neighborhood. We can do automated calls and postcards to families in your area, if you would like.

The recruitment Kick-off will be March 8 at 6:30 pm, and it will be held at the LDS Church at 23 Lake St. in Irvine. Once again, there will be incentive rewards for each unit as well as individual youth. Goals must be agreed upon ahead of time with Steve or Jillian. New families that attend your meeting can receive a gift from OCBSA. Scouting units can get all their supplies prior to their recruitment night from the William Lyon Homes Center for Scouting. We would also like to welcome Tiffany Elliott from Pack 654, she will be our 2007 Recruitment Chair and will be contacting the units in early March to help schedule recruitment dates and offer successful recruiting tips.

Cub Scout Day Camp
Day camp is roaring full steam ahead with exciting activities for your Scouts. Cub Scout Day Camp will be June 25-29, at Mason Park in Irvine. We have a great team with a whole new team of directors. Join me in welcoming our new Camp Director, Brent Place, and Program Director, Mary Anderson. Get your Scouts signed up today for this summer. Spaces will fill fast!
