Give back to Scouting … Participate in FOS
FOS is Friends of Scouting, the annual giving campaign of the Boy Scouts of America. During the months of February and March, every family is encouraged to make a contribution to help Scouting in Orange County grow with opportunities for every young man and Venture age young lady. A volunteer presentation team shares the FOS story with families at a unit meeting (generally the Pack Blue & Gold, Troop Court of Honor or Venture Parent meeting) and families participate with a contribution that they feel will help ensure a future of positive Scouting activities in Orange County.

Please help us by:

  1. Encouraging your unit leader to schedule a Friends of Scouting presentation by contacting Robin Boswell by email at RpHboswell@aol.com or Margaret Naylor margaretn@ocbsa.org
  2. Discussing with your family the possibility of making a contribution during the presentation. If you would like to help on the presentation team, please let Margaret Naylor know as well.

Are Your Leaders Trained?

Training is important and we commend all of you who have taken the training for your current position in Scouting. Please help us out by ensuring that your training records are complete and up-to-date. Send copies of your training cards, or dates and location of trainings (if you don’t have your card) to Janice Hoover. Janice is graciously volunteering to update records for every Scouting unit….but she needs your help. You can email her at jd.hoover@earthlink.net.

Join the Commissioner Team
Commissioners are experienced leaders who are willing to share their expertise, resources and time to help the adult leadership of local Packs, Troops and Venture Crews in the District. A unit commissioner generally works with one to three units, giving them the support and guidance they need to put on a quality Scouting program. If you are passionate about Scouting, and want to help units succeed, consider becoming a commissioner. Visit a commissioner staff meeting or contact Bob Lechich at blechich@hotmail.com. Commissioner meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm, at the LDS Church in Fountain Valley. (Slater and Bushard streets.)

Earn a Knot!
Being the spark to start a new Scout unit is a great way to leave a legacy for Scouting and create the beginning of many great memories for youth and their families. For information on the New Unit Organizer Award, visit www.scouting.org. If you have an idea for a new Pack, Troop or Venture Crew with a community group or youth organization that could benefit from Scouting, please contact Margaret Naylor at 714-546-8558 x104 or email margaretn@ocbsa.org
